3-point quick hitches

The year 1940 brought a revolution in the realm of farming, Harry Ferguson invented this device to attach to the tractor for plowing. Before the invention, the hitching of the farm was done using a drawbar. 

Definition 

The 3-point quick hitches are an integral part of tractors, it is a standardized method of attaching ploughs and other implements to an agricultural or industrial tractor. The 3-point hitch utilizes two lower connection points and one upper point which provides a way of joining two bodies. The attachment of the implement to the tractor in such a way that the implement stays fixed to the tractor and arm position of the hitch.

The construction resembles the letter ‘A’ or triangle.

A 3-point quick hitch consists of two lift arms and a link. The lift arms are monitored by a hydraulic system attached to the tractor, this is responsible for the movement of arms. The link keeps the implement in the same steep plane as it is moved up and down. The link is adjustable to allow the implement aligned or tilted. 

Categories of 3-point quick hitches

Varied tractors have different work requirements, according to their use. To fulfill all the uses the 3-point quick hitches are designed in various categories.

3-point quick hitch category 0 

3-point quick hitches category 0 are mostly used in garden tractors and lawn tractors. Earlier they were also equipped with sub-compact tractors. 3-point quick hitches are meant for light-duty and implements that are 20″. 

3-point quick hitch category 1 

Category 1 hitches are commonly attached on subcompact and compact tractors from 20-50hp. They are capable of doing heavy-duty work because of the balanced weight of their rear blade which mostly weights around 200 lbs. 

3-point quick hitch category 2

Category 2 are much more heavy-duty compared to a cat. 0 and cat.1, it has around 125hp which enables this for heavy-duty work. Cat.2 hitches are equipped in 40hp tractors. 

3-point quick hitch category 3

Cat 3 hitches are equipped on 80-225hp tractors. Their top link pins and lifts arm pins are of diameter 1¼(32mm) and 1⅞ respectively. The applications of cat 3 comprise medium-sized 3-point hitch implementations, used for crow crop cultivation and field cultivation. 

3-point quick hitch category 4

Category 4 hitches have the greatest top link pins of diameter 1- ¾” and lift arm of measure 2″. They are found on tractors of 180hp or more.
